Quality Craftsmanship

Quality Craftsmanship

We follow proper preservation practices to ensure that your project can be displayed & enjoyed for a lifetime. Our hard-working staff has years of hands-on framing & design experience. Chelsea Frames uses only the best materials to protect your framed project, like acid-free matting and UV-protected glass. We take the time to explain to our clients the benefits of using these materials to preserve and protect their artwork. We don’t settle for ‘good enough’ – our quality is the best!

Impressive Moulding Selection

Impressive Selection

Chelsea Frames has a huge selection of custom frame mouldings! With over 5,000 frame corner samples and mat choices, we can create the perfect framing design that’s just right for your artwork. We have a complete style range from contemporary to traditional, carrying well-known lines such as Larson-Juhl, Roma, Nurre Caxton and Nielsen Metal. Choose from fabric mats like linens, suedes, and raw silks, and hundreds of fillets to add the finishing touch to your masterpiece.

Our Framing Guarantee:

Every piece of artwork that passes through our doors is treated with respect.

If for any reason a client is not completely happy with the design of their project, they can return it within 14 days and we’ll redesign it without additional charges and without hassle. New design must be of equal or lesser value, client pays only the difference if the new design is more expensive. Craftsmanship and materials are covered for the life of the project.

We Perform All Work On-Site!

Chelsea Frames collaborates with many local, national, and international artisans for hand crafted frames. Our suppliers are eco-conscious and purchase their wood from countries who re-forest. Our studio is known for its Gallery line of frames. Made of specially milled hardwoods, these reflect current and enduring trends in framing. Most woods are native to North America. We also carry Honduras mahogany, basswood, birdseye maple and purple heart, to name a few. These are specially milled for our studio. Employing ‘Old World’ techniques, the frames are hand-finished with natural dyes, inks and then waxes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take?

Generally, our turnaround time on most frames is about two weeks. We do, however, carry many finished corner frames that can take longer (around 4-6 weeks). If you need something rushed, we can usually accommodate it depending on availability of materials and time frame desired. Please note that there is an additional fee for this service to cover the extra costs of expediting product.

Will my artwork leave the premises?

All framing is done on the premises unless otherwise noted. These exceptions usually apply to special mounting or plexi encapsulation. If your artwork is valuable, we encourage you to consult your insurance company and have it insured while it is on the premises.

Why is there no wire on the back of my piece?

We generally try to wire everything when we can, but if the piece is large or heavy, we insist that you hang it directly from the D-rings. By doing this, the weight will be more evenly distributed and allow for less tension on the rails and corners of the frame. From our experience, avoiding serious damage and injury is always worth the little bit of extra time and precision it takes to hang with D-rings. If you need assistance, we recommend you phone Reginaldo Acioli (212-366-5991), a professional art installer who has experience with this type of hanging system.

What is the largest size you can frame?

As long as it will fit out of our door, we can frame it. Please keep in mind that if the piece needs glazing, the largest sheet available is 102”x156”. On very rare occasions we have framed pieces on-site.

What if I can't find a frame that I like?

If you aren’t satisfied with the selection of samples we have in our showroom, ask us about special ordering an item or custom fabrication. We can also sometimes modify finishes and dimensions on a number of the frames we carry.
